Home Tour on Apartment Therapy

Home Tour on Apartment Therapy

I’m so excited to share that I recently did a home tour with Apartment Therapy. Having a home tour on one of my favorite interior design sites has been a dream since I was in design school and I can’t believe it has finally happened! I have spent the last year and a half pouring my heart and soul into this apartment and making it a home. It is truly my sanctuary. Here are a few sneak peeks — but you can check out the full tour here.

A special thanks to Nancy Mitchell who photographed the feature. I met her working at Bar Convent Brooklyn with Angostura Bitters and we started following each other on Instagram. Shortly after she reached out telling me she also worked for Apartment Therapy and asked if I wanted to do a home tour. Nancy runs an amazing cocktail blog and IG account called The Backyard Bartender. Make sure you check out her drinks and her interior photography. You seriously never know who you’re going to meet and I’m so glad I got to work on this shoot with Nancy.

Hope you all enjoy the tour and let me know what you think by chiming in on the comments below. The beautiful baby blue monstera leaf wallpaper in the bedroom is from Wallflora Shop and the lemon mural in the kitchen was done by my very talented friend Blair Urban of Urban Lush Murals.

Not sure what I’m going to do now that the house is completely decorated. 😉

Sunday Kind of Love

February 4, 2018 by Natalie Leave a Comment

Sunday Kind of Love

I think I need to set more attainable goals when it comes to my Sunday Kind of Love posts. For some reason, I just can’t seem to keep up. One day they will become weekly again but for now, I will pop in when I can — OK? Above is your Monday motivation.

  • I fell off the January Cure a little but am continuing it into February. Everything is almost done but I’m waiting for some things from the container store to get here so I can organize the closets. I can’t wait to have organized and functional closets. Are there people out there that have those? I still need to order my wallpaper for the bedroom but I keep stalling because it’s kind of pricey. We are signing on for another year in our apartment so there will be plenty of time. My goal is to finish the bedroom and my office by Spring. Fingers crossed I can hold myself to it!
  • While I was on Pinterest this week I spotted a photo of my Hallway Refresh for the One Room Challenge. I figured someone had pinned it from my reveal post BUT it was actually from Apartment Therapy. It was in a before + after feature that was posted back in December and I somehow missed it! If you want to check it out head over to Apartment Therapy.
  • Two posts went up on A Beautiful Mess and Palm Springs Style last week. I shared Tips for Mixing Healthier Cocktails plus three fresh vegetable juice cocktails and a Spicy Beet Bloody Mary. I’ve been on a fresh juice/healthy cocktail kick since I got my Hurom slow juicer. No regrets, I’m still totally in love with this juicer. Worth every single penny! Go check out the recipes and let me know what you think.
  • I’ve been feeling down lately. Not sure if it’s the workload, the weather, or my San Pedro Cactus dying. Yes, I’ve officially stripped myself of my plant lady title until further notice. Anyways, today I came across A Month of Self-Love that Glitter Guide is doing and I think I’m going to join in. I need to start taking better care of myself and making self-love a priority. Hopefully, these tasks will help me make it a part of my daily routine again. My life is busy but I need to have a healthy mind and body so I can stay motivated.
  • One thing I have to look forward to… I booked a trip to Palm Springs for Modernism Week at the end of this month! Last years trip to Palm Springs pretty much changed my life forever and I can’t wait to get back to the place that inspires me every day. I really need this trip to relax and I think it will be good for my soul to get back to the desert. I’m not going to lie, one day I might just go there and never come back.

Happy Sunday everyone! xo

Sunday Kind of Love

Sunday Kind of Love

Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see how your week went. I had a pretty busy one filled with work, lots of photo shoots for new blog posts, and one really bad hangover. OUCH! The Dutch Kills staff party was on Monday and I went a little too hard. Does anyone else get 3-day hangovers like me? I’m back to share my Sunday Kind of Love Post with you. Did any of you decide to also take part in Apartment Therapy’s January Cure? I’m still at it and I’m sharing my progress plus some items I’m looking at to get more organized in the new year.

I loved so many of the assignments this week.

  • Spend time with your home tonight. This was a media fast day which is so refreshing for me. It’s great to sit and think about all the things you want to accomplish with no distractions
  • Identify the places at home where paper tends to collect and work to get rid of it. This was a big one for me because I freelance which means I save ALL of my receipts. Keeping all the paper organized is important so I don’t lose anything I need but I cleaned out my desk, purse, and kitchen counter where the papers like to hang out.
  • Take some pictures of your home and use them to help you pick one thing from your list of projects to finish. I would really love to wallpaper the bedroom so hopefully, I can order it in time to be done this month!
  • Get your primary sofa into shape. I removed all cushions and gave the sofa a quick vacuum. Then I vacuumed and fluffed each cushion. My pink couch from Article was my dream couch and I’m so happy to own it. This was a quick refresh and made my favorite spot look flawless.
  • Refreshing the kitchen. This assignment had many parts to it and I did my best to tackle most of them. Basically, you organize everything in your cabinets and drawers plus get rid of anything you don’t need. Lucky for me I organized all my drawers last week! The other part of this assignment is cleaning the entire kitchen by decluttering, cleaning the appliances, and wiping down everything. I’m pretty much done besides tackling the inside of my cabinets. Do you know how much glassware I have? A LOT. Pour me a glass of wine and I’ll finish this by tonight.

I desperately need to organize all the closets because I know they could be more functional. Here are some items I want to get for the January Cure.

  • This door rack for the kitchen closet.
  • This shelf tower for the kitchen closet.
  • This wallpaper for the kitchen backsplash.
  • This wallpaper for the bedroom.

I’m sure I’ll be adding more things to that list as the month goes on. What are you doing to get your home more organized in the new year? Are there any big projects you want to tackle to get your home in order? Let me know in the comments below. xo

Sunday Kind of Love: 2018 Home Goals

January 7, 2018 by Natalie Leave a Comment

My 2018 Home GoalsIt’s been awhile since I did a Sunday Kind of Love post on the blog. I think the last time I did one was while I was in France. Things got so busy for me come October and consequently, I couldn’t keep up with doing my weekly Sunday Kind of Love post. Even now I’m writing this a little late so most of you probably won’t see it until Monday morning when you check your inbox.

I wanted to share a quick post about my 2018 home goals. I’m currently doing the January Cure that Apartment Therapy hosts at the start of every new year. I’ve done it for the last six years and I highly recommend joining along. Starting a new year is the perfect time to make a fresh start and getting your home primed for the year ahead. I love doing the January Cure because although trying to get your home organized seems like a giant task, Apartment Therapy has made it easy by breaking it up into small, one-a-day assignments. This makes things more manageable and motivates you to get more done.

I just finished the first week and wanted to share my progress with you. There were four assignments this week and you can catch up on all of them here. Mainly I wanted to talk about Day 2 which was make a list of projects you want to tackle this year. I did a walkthrough of my home and made notes along the way of areas I want to improve. I organized my list by room and created sections for all the important areas.

2018 Home Goals

Livingroom

  • Organize and clean out the credenza
  • Take everything off the shelves and deep clean

Hallway

  • Organize the closet

Kitchen

  • Organize all drawers and cabinets
  • Clean out glassware and things I don’t use
  • Organize closet
  • Organize the china cabinet
  • Wallpaper backsplash

Bathroom

  • Repaint white

Office

  • Purchase smaller desk with storage
  • Add more shelving
  • Organize
  • Possibly wallpaper (Am I allowed to wallpaper every room?)

Bedroom

  • Wallpaper
  • Organize closet
  • Buy new hamper
  • Finish decorating

Finishing the first week of the January Cure has definitely motivated me and helped me prioritize what I need to accomplish for my 2018 home goals. On the first day, I organized one drawer in the kitchen and since I’ve organized one a day. It took me under 10 minutes to organize each one so if you have a few spare minutes, spend it each day tackling something small. It might not seem like a lot at the time but at the end of the week it adds up. As a result, every drawer in my kitchen is clean, neat, and organized now!

I can’t wait to continue the assignments and see what I’ve accomplished by the end of the month even furthermore — the year. It’s not too late for you to join in, and if you do I’d love for you to check back and share your progress in the comments. I will be sharing mine here every Sunday for the whole month. I hope my 2018 home goals will motivate you to get your home in order as well. Cheers everyone and happy cleaning! xo

Sunday Kind of Love

August 20, 2017 by Natalie Leave a Comment

I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. The end of Summer blues have officially set it. We’re approaching the last two weeks of August and I haven’t been to the beach once. I dread the winter so my anxiety about it starts pretty early. On the other hand, for the first time in my adult life I have the space to get a Christmas tree and I’m really excited to decorate the mantels. Besides looking forward to that, the cold and darkness really gets me down. Am I being over dramatic? I better start planning my next trip to Palm Springs.

There seems to be no slowing down in my schedule. I have a pretty busy September ahead (I’m going to France – YAY!) and October is jam packed with two weddings and I’m possibly going to Charleston for the SAVEUR Awards. Speaking of that, don’t forget to keep voting for me! You can do that here as many times as you want until 9/6.

  • Supercall named me one of the best boozy Instagrams to follow if you need a vacation. Check it out here! I REALLY need a vacation. Have you gone anywhere fun this summer?

  • Joanna Hawley of Jojotastic mentioned my Hibiscus Gin-Gin Mule in her Friday edit column. I’m such a huge fan of her blog so I was really excited that she even reads mine! Fan girl moment. Go check out her blog if you don’t read it already. I’ve been completely drooling over her bedroom reveal.

  • What do you think of this floral table by Liberty for Anthropologie? I thought I had decided on the West Elm table because it was more practicle. If you didn’t read my kitchen table dilema post, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’ve been lurking Craigslist for something vintage too. I really want to get something before the holidays.

  • My biggest news of the week is that my living room was featured on Apartment Therapy. I went to school for interior design (not sure if a lot of you know that) so one of my dreams has always been to see my home featured in my favorite design publications. This year my dream came true with a feature on Domino and now Apartment Therapy. I’m trying to finish up the rest of my rooms for fall so hopefully I can do some home tour features. DREAMS!

Making this one short and sweet. I have a lot of fun recipes coming your way this week, both here and on A Beautiful Mess. I’m also making some delicious boozy popsicles for Palm Springs Style which I’m very excited about! I shot two projects this week for posts that will have giveaways attached to them as well, so stay tuned! Hope you all had a great weekend. Cheers. xo
