My 2017 Highlights - Arsenic Lace

Happy New Year everyone! This year is off to a crazy start with the blizzard we just had here in the Northeast. I’m snowed in and have had a lot of time to reflect so I thought I’d do a post on my 2017 highlights. 2017 was a difficult year overall for our country and the world in general but I was determined to make it one of my best. I have grown so much over the last year both personally and professionally.  I traveled to so many places I only ever dreamed of seeing, collaborated with so many talented people, and moved into my dream home. 2017 was pretty much the best year of my life and honestly, I was sad to see it go. Here are some of my 2017 highlights!

Ever since I studied design and architecture in college I have always been obsessed with Palm Springs, CA. 2017 was the year I made my dream come true and finally visited this magical city in the desert. I definitely found my spirit animal city and the place where I belong. Can’t wait to go back this year and I’d love to do a travel guide on the blog. The first photo is from our trip to Moorten’s Botanical Garden. If you’re ever in Palm Springs going there is a must. Admission is just $5 and looking at all the amazing desert plants and cacti is breathtaking.

I started contributing to A Beautiful Mess in 2017 which was a huge deal for me. I have long looked up to Elsie and Emma and am a long time reader of the blog. I collaborated with Michelle Gage for the Spring One Room Challenge and it was a complete success! My living room was (of course) Palm Springs-themed and I’m so happy with the results. It got a lot of features including ones on Domino, The Every Girl, Houzz, and Apartment Therapy. It was even named by Domino as one of their Most-Loved Living Rooms of 2017 and Wallpapered Rooms That Made Us Embrace Pattern in 2017. Does this mean my living room is so 2017? I still love it!

I traveled to Spain with Cardenal Mendoza which was a whirlwind. We did four cities (Madrid, Sevilla, Cadiz, and the winery/distillery in Jerez) in four days and I fell completely in love with Spain. There was so much brandy and sherry consumed on that trip and I was heaven. I have to edit the hundreds of photos I took while I was there and get them up on the blog. Keeping up with regular content is overwhelming enough that the thought of editing travel photos was daunting to me. Definitely going to try to be better this year with sharing travel on the blog.

I started contributing to Palm Springs Style as well which was so exciting. I’m such a fan of everything Katy does especially her Door Tour for Modernism Week. Can’t wait to go back this year and have people to connect with.

A huge dream come true and the biggest of my 2017 highlights was getting to finally travel to France. This has been a dream of mine ever since I was an Audrey Hepburn movie obsessed little girl so it was a really big deal for me. I got to travel with one of my favorite spirit brands Pierre Ferrand and Plantation Rum. We spent time in Paris checking out all the cocktail bars and also took a trip to Cognac to visit Chateau Bonbonnet and the distillery where Pierre Ferrand Cognac is made and where all the Plantation Rums are aged in barrels. Citadelle Gin is also made there among other spirits in their portfolio.

I stayed behind for a few days by myself and got to explore Paris alone. Something I wish I did in Spain. If you get the chance to travel, stay as long as you possibly can because you never know when you’ll be there again! I need to edit more photos from France and get them up on the blog as well.

As you know I was nominated for Best Drinks Blog by SAVEUR Magazine and traveled to Charleston, SC for the ceremony. Even though I didn’t win, it was a great trip and inspiring experience. I met so many bloggers IRL that I’ve been following for years and got to connect with new ones as well. It was great to be surrounded by so many like-minded individuals that are all trying to accomplish similar goals. Hopefully, in 2018 I can take the trip again!

After all that traveling in September and October, I came home and jumped right into the Fall One Room Challenge. I decided to do this challenge alone to motivate me to get another room done in the house. So happy with how the hallway and stairs came out. Still makes me happy every time I walk up and down them!

Ethan and I had to go to Texas for a family wedding. We were in Grapevine mostly but got to spend a night in Dallas. I visited my friends Christy and Chad’s cocktail bar Midnight Rambler. Can’t wait to go back to Texas and explore a little more. That trip was too quick!

The only bad part of my year was when I lost my best friend and kitty Phil the day before Halloween. He was so young and got sick suddenly so I was completely unprepared and totally devastated when he passed away. I still think about him every day and I know he would have loved the pink Christmas tree as much as Erik did. Erik sleeps under it almost every night. I don’t want to take it down!

My last trip of the year was going on a quick trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL to spend time with my mom, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew. It was fun but I was excited to come home and spend some time here before the holidays. It was the first year I decorated for Christmas as an adult and I think I just wanted to enjoy it.

Yes, the Champagne posts continue! It is, after all, New Year’s and what else would I be drinking? I  made these Champagne Cupcakes for tomorrow night because the only thing better than drinking Champagne would be eating it. Okay, maybe I’m wrong. Drinking Champagne is definitely better. But these will pair perfectly with a glass of bubbly!

Champagne Cupcakes

Champagne Cupcakes, makes 1 dozen cupcakes

For the cupcakes:

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 cup sour cream or greek yogurt

1/2 cup sparkling wine

Champagne Frosting

For the frosting:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

4 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup sparkling wine

1 tsp. vanilla extract

sprinkles

Champagne Cupcakes

Preheat your oven to 350°. In the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together the sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla extract and mix until combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl whisk together sour cream/yogurt and sparkling wine. Slowly add wine mixture and flour mixture into sugar and eggs.

Distribute batter evenly with a tablespoon among a lined tray and place in oven. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cupcakes cool about 15 minutes. While they’re cooling you can make the icing.

In the bowl of your stand mixer combine all frosting ingredients and beat until smooth. Fill a pastry bag and frost the cupcakes. Decorate with sprinkles. I used these gold ones.

This is the same recipe that I made when I did Rosé Champagne Mini Cupcakes for A Beautiful Mess. I changed the wine to regular sparkling wine instead of Rosé and didn’t add food coloring to the batter or frosting. I used a Prosecco because I didn’t want to use the really good stuff. I’m saving that for midnight! These Champagne Cupcakes still turned out pretty good. The first time I made this recipe I used sour cream. This time around I did Greek yogurt and I have to admit that the sour cream ones were better. So go with the sour cream! They still came out light and fluffy but were a little less moist.

The best part about making these is you get to drink the rest of the sparkling wine. Make sure you save a glass to wash these Champagne Cupcakes down with though! Pineapple Champagne Punch

Greetings everyone and happy almost New Year! I hope you have some fun plans to ring in the New Year, but if not don’t fret. New Year’s Eve is one of those holidays that’s always filled with unrealistic expectations. I have spent most working behind the bar but this year I’m staying home for a low key evening with a few friends. If you’re entertaining, I made this Pineapple Champagne Punch that’s simple to throw together. What better way to ring in the New Year than with all my favorite ingredients mixed together in one giant bowl! Don’t forget the disco balls!

Pineapple Champagne Punch

Pineapple Champagne Punch, serves 8-10

4 oz. Jamaican Rum

4 oz. Cognac

3 oz. pineapple juice

3 oz. lime juice

4 oz. allspice simple syrup

1-2 bottles sparkling wine

Pineapple Champagne Punch

The allspice syrup is super easy to make. Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan with 1 teaspoon of ground allspice. Heat on the stove and stir until all sugar has dissolved. Let simmer for 10 minutes to cook in the allspice. Remove from heat and let steep for another 10 minutes. Use a fine strainer and a double layer of cheesecloth to strain out the allspice. You can store the syrup in a jar or bottle. This will keep for up to one month refrigerated. If you have allspice liqueur on hand you can add a 1/2 oz. of that to the syrup as well. It will add more flavor and keep it fresh longer.

To make your Pineapple Champagne Punch add all your ingredients to your punch bowl, pouring the sparkling wine last.Easy peasy. I made this batch with one bottle of sparkling wine. My suggestion for a boozier punch is to use two bottles. It will also help dry the punch out a tad because it’s on the sweeter side.

I made a large format ice cube by using a bundt cake mold. Freeze pineapple wheels, a little pineapple juice, and water in your mold. This keeps your punch cold longer and doesn’t over dilute it.

This Pineapple Champagne Punch was so delicious! I can’t wait to make it again for New Year’s Eve. Even though I made a special syrup for the punch it was still fairly simple to put together. You can make the syrup days ahead of time to make assembly even easier. The allspice added tons of flavor and complemented the rum, cognac, and pineapple perfectly. Allspice and pineapple are a common pairing in a lot of classic tiki drinks and that’s where I got the idea for this Pineapple Champagne Punch.

Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes

It wouldn’t be Christmas without some eggnog, right? I’ve whipped up these delicious Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes just in time to enjoy the perfect holiday treat. Of course, enjoying a glass will do but I love finding other ways to use it, particularly in baked goods. Last year I made these eggnog snickerdoodle cookies for my favorite Christmas Eve tradition: Adult Milk and Cookies. I’d really love to reshoot that post just because my photography and styling has improved but there wasn’t enough time this year. I couldn’t get the idea out of my head for making these Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes and I’m so happy I made them. They’re like a two for one cocktail and dessert!

Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes

Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes, makes 12 cupcakes

for the cupcakes:

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

1/4 cup spiced rum

1 cup eggnog

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 cup sugar

for the frosting:

2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature

3 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

pinch of salt

pinch of nutmeg

2 1/2 tbsp. eggnog

1 tbsp. dark rum

Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes

To make the cupcakes, preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a cupcake pan with paper liners. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg and whisk to combine. In a bowl of an electric hand mixer, combine the rum, eggnog, vegetable oil, vinegar, and sugar. Beat on medium speed until well blended. Add in dry ingredients and mix on low speed until incorporated. Divide the batter between the cupcake liners and bake 22-24 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

To make the frosting, place the butter in the bowl of an electric hand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Beat on medium-high speed until smooth. Add in powdered sugar, salt, and nutmeg, and mix on medium-high speed until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the eggnog and whip on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add the rum and mix on low speed until incorporated. Add icing to a pastry bag and pipe on cupcakes. Garnish with grated cinnamon or nutmeg and a cinnamon stick if desired.

I’m really happy with how these Spiked Eggnog Cupcakes came out. I had to bring them to work because if I were to be left alone with these at home I would have eaten every single one of them. That’s how good they are! The cake was so soft and moist from the eggnog but not overly sweet. I love when cupcakes aren’t too sweet because that’s what the icing is for.

Adding spiced rum was the perfect addition to these cupcakes because it complimented all of the other baking spice flavors. You could also use bourbon is you prefer that over rum. Either way, these were delicious and are the ultimate Christmas treat. Serve them with a side of boozy eggnog and dessert is served. I hope your holiday is merry and bright everyone. Christmas Decor Tour

Christmas Decor TourOver the last few weeks, I’ve posted little snippets of my Holiday decor on Instagram stories. To my surprise, I got a lot of messages asking if I would be posting a Christmas Decor Tour. Sadly I didn’t get to decorate as much as I would have liked but the living room does look pretty glorious and festive. I decided to do a last minute Christmas Decor Tour post of the living room to fulfill some of your requests.

Christmas Decor TourThe first thing I knew I wanted to do was make these DIY Mid-Century Christmas Village Putz Houses from Krys Melo of Melodrama. If you don’t follow her or her blog please run right over there ASAP. Her style, use of color, and home inspire me so much. Plus she lives in Palm Springs which is my dream! I saw these Christmas village houses last year and I said to myself, “one day I’m going to make those”.

Christmas Decor TourChristmas Decor TourChristmas Decor TourChristmas Decor TourA couple Sundays ago Ethan and I made boozy hot chocolate, put Christmas music on, decorated the pink Christmas tree of my dreams, and made the Mid-Century Christmas village. They turned out even better than I imagined and I think I want to make it a holiday tradition to make one every year. I guess if I start running out of space I’ll just have to start gifting them to people! They make the perfect Christmas decor for the mantel. My favorite part was decorating and styling them. I love bottle brush trees so much! At one point Ethan was like, “do you have enough bottle brush trees?”, and the answer is always no, never!

Since then I’ve haven’t lived in a place with the space to accommodate holiday decorations and honestly, the holidays have never really felt the same. For the first time in my adult life, I have the room for a real sized tree and this made my heart so happy beyond belief. I collected a few ornaments over the years and have been gifted quite a few as well. I’ve been basically hoarding them until the day I could put them on my very own tree. 2017 was my year for this. 2017 has pretty much been my year for a lot of things.

Christmas Decor TourChristmas Decor TourChristmas Decor TourI decorated the bar cart for my Holiday Hot Cocoa Bar post and slightly tweaked it after moving the Keurig back to the kitchen. I love the Be Merry banner which is from Target. Most of my holiday decor is pretty budget friendly (Target, Michaels, Homegoods, DIY). I just had to invest in the tree which I got from Treetopia. It’s called the Pretty in Pink Tree which couldn’t be more appropriate.

My Favorite Tom & Jerry Recipe

A Tom & Jerry is a classic winter beverage that every cocktail drinker should try at some point. It’s a sweet, frothy, warm drink that is flavored with dark rum and cognac and it has been a holiday favorite since the 1820s. There’s just one thing: the Tom & Jerry is not the easiest drink to make, but it is worth it. I’m showing you how to make my favorite Tom & Jerry recipe just in time for Christmas.

The Tom & Jerry is a descendant of eggnog but not eggnog. The main difference is that the Tom & Jerry is served warm and the drink is built in the serving mug. Eggnog, on the other hand, is cold and already mixed and ready to drink. The Tom & Jerry is, however, a fantastic alternative to Eggnog and many drinkers prefer it because it is more of a warm milk punch and has less of an ‘eggy’ flavor. First, I’ll show you how to prepare the batter then how to assemble the drink.

My Favorite Tom & Jerry Recipe

Tom & Jerry batter, serves 12

6 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 stick of butter, room temperature
1/2 tsp. allspice, ground
1/2 tsp. cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp. cloves, ground
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

My Favorite Tom & Jerry Recipe

Separate the egg whites from yolks into two large bowls. Add butter and sugar to egg yolks and beat with an electric stand mixer. In a separate bowl beat the egg whites to stiff peaks. Gently fold egg whites into yolk mixture until color and consistency are the same.To finish the batter, stir in allspice, cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla.

Tom & Jerry, serves 1

1 oz. cognac

1 oz. dark rum

1 tbsp. Tom & Jerry batter

warm milk

nutmeg, for garnish

The hard part is over and now we can make our cocktail. To assemble Tom and Jerrys, gently heat milk in a saucepan over low heat (amount depends on how many drinks you plan to serve). For two servings I heated 1 cup of milk. This will also depend on the size of your serving vessels. While constantly stirring batter, add brandy and rum. Fill to the top with milk and stir until foamy.

Grate fresh nutmeg on top for garnish. Sip and enjoy!

The Tom & Jerry is much like making a Hot Buttered Rum. It all begins with mixing the spiced batter, which can be refrigerated or frozen until it’s time for a drink. Once that is done, it’s as simple as pouring warm milk over your liquor and batter. It’s a fabulous way to have a tasty hot cocktail ready for holiday visitors and parties.

I put together this Holiday Spirit Gift Guide in case you need any last minute ideas on what to get that special someone. I’m never disappointed with a bottle of booze and I’ve included all my favorites to gift and get. The best part? These are all under $50!

  1. Monkey 47 Gin $45– An unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a unique ingredient, cranberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin and is bottled at a healthy 47% ABV. In 2011 Monkey 47 won the World Spirits Award Gold in the Gin category and Gold for best in class for the Gin Worldwide at the International Wine and Spirits Competition London. Such a great gin to use in cocktails and a staple in my home bar.
  2. Plantation Pineapple Rum $32-This blended rum is crafted in two parts, first by infusing ripe Queen Victoria pineapples in rich, aged Plantation Original Dark Rum for 3 months. Then they distilled a second batch using pineapple rind with their classic white rum, blended the two and before bottling, matured them for an extra period in the barrel. The result is an absolutely delicious, bright rum with pineapple essence to blend with the lushness of the infused Plantation Rum. Enjoy it straight on ice or mix it with a cocktail. This was originally supposed to be a limited edition Rum gifted to friends, family, and limited stock in certain bars. It was such a hit they decided to keep making it. I was lucky enough to receive one of the very first bottles and that’s the one that sits at home on my bar cart. I’ll sip on it when I’m feeling special!
  3. Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila $25– Altos Reposado Tequila is a super premium, high quality, 100% agave tequila. Altos Reposado is aged in oak barrels for 4-6 months, which creates a rich and complex taste perfect for drinking on its own or in cocktails. Margarita, please! It was rated a 94 at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
  4. Laird’s Apple Brandy $32– Laird’s Apple Brandy is hands down my favorite spirit there ever was. Besides the fact that it is a must-have for any at home cocktail enthusiast because of its history and presence throughout classic cocktail culture, it is from my home state of New Jersey. Laird’s also holds distilling license number 1 in the USA making it the oldest and the first distillery in America. It’s also the oldest family-run distillery in the country, run by a 7th generation Laird, Lisa Laird Dunn. Did I mention George Washington is the only other person to have the family recipe? Drinking this is like drinking history and everyone needs a bottle on their home bar. The Jack Rose is my favorite classic cocktail and are perfect for drinking during the holidays.
  5. Pierre Ferrand Cognac $40– A top-quality golden Grande Champagne Cognac from distinguished boutique producer Pierre Ferrand. A lively, expressive style with fresh fruit flavors and good depth from this award-winning house. This is what I drink and mix with at home and also what I prefer to use behind the bar. Ferrand is also the producer of the Plantation Rums. Pretty much my favorite line of spirits. Check out Citadelle Gin too!
  6. Glen Grant 12 year Scotch $48– I’m not a huge Scotch drinker but I love the Glen Grant 12 year. I call this the beginner Scotch because it is so easy to drink! It’s light and fruity with notes of apple pie, caramel, vanilla and subtle spice. Glen Grant 12 year is great to drink alone but also mixes great in cocktails because of its subtle flavors.
  7. Amaro Nonino $47– This is one of my favorite Amaro’s because it is so unique!  A digestif made from grappa infused with herbs, plus grain alcohol, and ingredients that include caramelized sugar, bitter orange, cinchona, licorice, quassia wood, rhubarb, saffron, sweet orange, and tamarind. Has an herby fragrance, with a mildly bitter spicy taste. Great on its own before or after dinner and in my favorite Paper Plane cocktail!
  8. Elijah Craig Bourbon $33– Bottled exclusively from a dumping of 70 barrels or less, all drawn from the middle to upper floors of the traditional metal-clad rickhouses. It is the original Small Batch Bourbon, having been made available even before the term was invented.
  9. Del Maguey Vida Mezcal $36– I love all the expressions that Del Maguey puts out but the Vida is really great for the price. A fruity bouquet complemented by honey, vanilla and agave. Palate spiced with cinnamon, sandalwood, and ginger, with a citrus undertone. Finish is smoky soft and lingering. Great on its own but especially great in cocktails. I use this at home and behind the bar.
  10. Faretti Biscotti Liqueur $30– A uniquely delicious spirit, the famous Faretti liqueur comes from Northern Italy where wonderful biscotti cookies are baked in rustic brick ovens. This is one of my absolute favorite liqueurs! It is great on its own, in coffee, but especially in cocktails. You’ve probably seen me use it on the blog numerous times. It is a great substitute for when amaretto is called for in drinks and in my opinion yields a much more delicious flavor. Faretti is so festive for the holidays and makes a wonderful Christmas gift. Crack it open with coffee and dessert!

Holiday Pomegranate Mule

It’s beginning to look a lot like cocktails (I mean Christmas) around here! The holidays can be a little hectic, so taking the stress out of entertaining is key. I put together this Holiday Pomegranate Mule that is perfect for your holiday celebrations. They’re easy to whip up in a larger batch but also simple if you just need to make a few. Maybe you need to kick up your feet up and relax with one. I promise this Holiday Pomegranate Mule will do the trick!

I’ve been using Zevia mixers a lot around here and I love, love, love their ginger beer. Their mixers are simple and the perfect compliment to any cocktail. This ginger beer is bold and spicy in flavor (which I love) with a hint of sweetness. Making smarter choices is important to me and I like using Zevia because there is no sugar, no calories, and no artificial sweeteners. That means they won’t overload cocktails with extra calories and they have a more sophisticated and drier flavor than most sodas on the market. I used Zevia ginger beer in my Holiday Pomegranate Mule and the results were amazing!

Holiday Pomegranate Mule, serves 1

2 oz. vodka

3/4 oz. lime juice

3/4 oz. pomegranate simple syrup

1 can Zevia Ginger Beer

I made a pomegranate simple syrup with stevia to further reduce the calories associated with drinking cocktails. I made it by reducing fresh pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and stevia. Place 2 cups pomegranate juice, 4 tbsp. of stevia and 1/2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice in a saucepan set over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally until the stevia has completely dissolved. Allow to cool completely and store in a glass jar or bottle.

Add your vodka, lime juice, and pomegranate simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with some ice and give it a quick shake. Pour into a copper mug filled with ice and top with Zevia Ginger Beer. Garnish with a slice of lime, a sprig of rosemary, and some pomegranate seeds. While I was scooping out the seeds from the pomegranate I produced a good amount of fresh pomegranate juice. If that’s the case for you as well, pour some of the juice into your cocktail. I love fresh pomegranate juice and it added so much flavor to the drink!

Pomegranates are tart, tangy, and rich but not sweet, with musky complexities similar to red wine. I love using this ingredient in cocktails because the flavors are so complex and mix well with so many spirits. I based this Holiday Pomegranate Mule off the classic Moscow Mule cocktail but feel free to use another spirit besides vodka. Rum, gin, tequila, or any type of whiskey would also be a great fit for this drink.

If you want to make this drink in a large batch multiply the recipe by how many drinks you’d like to make. Add all ingredients to a pitcher or punch bowl and stir. By making some slight adjustments like using a stevia sweetener instead of sugar and using Zevia, I made a healthy and low-calorie cocktail. It’s easy to pack on a few pounds during the holiday season so I’ll save my calories where I can. Does this mean I can have an extra cookie? Blood Orange Sangria

Happy hour time? After a few days with children at Walt Disney World, I’m in need of a drink. TGIF everyone! I found blood oranges at the market and I can’t even contain my excitement. I decided to make this easy Blood Orange Sangria so I can enjoy it over the weekend. If you can get your hands on blood oranges already this would be great to make for an upcoming holiday party or gathering. Large format drinks are perfect for the holiday and entertaining season.

Blood Orange Sangria

Blood Orange Sangria, serves 4-6

1 bottle Pinot Grigio
1/2 cup blood orange juice
1/2 cup Lairds Apple Brandy
1/4 cup Campari
1 cup club soda
2 blood oranges sliced into wheels or chopped
12 oz. strawberries, sliced
1 pint of raspberries
1 apple, chopped

Blood Orange Sangria

First things first, juice your blood oranges. In a large pitcher combine the wine, apple brandy, campari, blood orange juice, club soda, apples, raspberries, strawberries, and blood oranges. Stir well to combine. Fill your glasses with ice then spoon some fruit from the sangria on top.Pour into each glass and serve.

This sangria gets better as it sits, so you can make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge. It serves 4-6 people or just you all weekend. 😉

I added the Campari as a last minute idea but I’m so glad I did.  Campari is an Italian bitter aperitif and is a blend of fruit, herbs, and spices. Its prominent flavor is strong bitter orange so I thought it was a great ingredient to use in the addition of fresh blood oranges. I wanted to use a Brandy that added some seasonality and thought using Lairds Apple Brandy was the perfect option. Its fresh apple taste complements the other ingredients in this Blood Orange Sangria plus enhances the flavors of the freshly chopped apples. I used a Honeycrisp apple because those are my favorite. Their creamy white flesh is exceptionally crisp and aromatic and they have a pleasant sweet-tart flavor.
