Mango Kombucha Margarita + Bistec Mango Tacos

June 15, 2018 by Natalie 4 Comments

Mango Kombucha Margarita + Bistec Mango Tacos

Did you think I would get sick of margaritas and tacos after my trip to Mexico? NEVER! Honestly, as a result of my trip, it’s all I want to eat and drink! I’m so happy to be teaming up with Exotico Tequila for this next post. I’m sharing recipes for my Mango Kombucha Margarita + Bistec Mango Tacos. After all, what is a margarita without a taco? It’s certainly my favorite cocktail and food pairing in this whole wide world!

Mango Kombucha Margarita + Bistec Mango Tacos

Mango Kombucha Margarita, serves 1

2 oz. Exotico Blanco Tequila

3/4 oz. fresh lime juice

1/2 oz. agave

4-5 pieces fresh mango, muddled

top with mango kombucha (I used GT’s)

First, add mango, lime juice, and agave to your cocktail shaker and then muddle. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, shake, and strain into a salt-rimmed glass. Finally, top with mango kombucha and garnish with a lime wheel and cilantro.

2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp. cayenne pepper

Slice the steak into 1-inch strips and then cook in a pan with olive oil and salt. To make the tequila cayenne sauce combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat until slightly boiling. Then prepare the mango salsa by chopping mango, onion, and tomato. Next, put your chopped ingredients in a bowl, then add remaining ingredients and toss. Finally to assemble tacos place your steak in a corn tortilla, drizzle with tequila cayenne sauce, top with mango salsa and a sprinkle of cilantro.

Exotico Tequila is handcrafted with tradition by the Gonzalez Distillery which is a family distillery spanning three generations and one of Mexico’s most respected makers of tequila. The tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco. The red clay soil in Jalisco produces a larger, sweeter agave heart thus gives Exotico its floral, well-rounded taste. The Exotico Blanco has notes of roasted agave and pepper which make it delightful to sip on its own but also perfect for mixing in drinks like the margarita!

Mango Kombucha Margarita + Bistec Mango Tacos

I was inspired by a Tommy’s Margarita (tequila, lime, agave) when developing this Mango Kombucha Margarita. A few months back I made Kombucha Sangria on A Beautiful Mess and instantly fell in love with this ingredient in cocktails. It adds flavor, tang, and effervescence to drinks that yields such flavorful and interesting results. Once I knew what margarita I wanted to make, I based my taco recipe around it using similar ingredients.

I hope you will try my Mango Kombucha Margarita + Mango Bistec Tacos this Summer! They go absolutely perfect together and not to mention, are a winning combination. I love that both the margarita and tacos are savory but are also sweet and summery from using fresh mango. I think planning a taco night is in order!

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

May 1, 2018 by Natalie

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Bai for this next post! Memorial Day Weekend is just over a month away and is the official kick-off to Summer. I’ve put together 3 fun ways for you to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend this year. Whether you’re staying home, entertaining, or going to a friends party, it’s always a good idea to have a few tricks up your sleeves.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

DIY Balloon Arch

Supplies:

helium tank

balloon decorating strip

various balloons in different colors and sizes

glue dots

balloon string

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

I’ve never blown up balloons with helium before this project. Honestly, it was so easy and I got this Balloon Time tank that is available at Party City. They’re so easy to use and can easily be recycled when empty. To use all you have to do is twist the nozzle, press down to fill the balloons, and then tie the ends up. You can blow up all your balloons and then attach them or attach them as you go which is what I ended up doing. If you blow them all up at once, make sure you can reach them, or put them in garbage bags so they don’t float up.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Next, you can attach them to the balloon decorating strip. Slip the knot of a balloon through the hole of the decorating strip. Skip a few holes and place another balloon facing the opposite direction. Keep alternating balloon colors and sides until you have a balloon strip as long as you need your arch to be. If your balloon arch is looking scarce you can add a few more balloons where needed, but don’t go too crazy. We’re going to add little balloons to fill in the holes too.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Once all your main balloons are on the strip as long as you need it to be, you can cut the strip on either side where the balloons end. You can use balloon string to tie your arch to the table or piece of furniture your using. I tied mine to strings that went to the floor and then used balloon weights to hold it down. Use glue dots to stick mini balloons into the holes and crevices until you have an arch that’s completely full.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Jalapeño Watermelon Paloma

Ingredients:

2 oz Jalapeño infused Tequila

2 oz. Bai Kula Watermelon

1/2 oz. fresh lime juice

4 chunks watermelon

salt, for rimming

top with Bai Bubbles Gimbi Pink Grapefruit

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

First, infuse your tequila. Slice jalapeño and add it to a jar with the tequila. Depending on the intensity of your pepper this may infuse fairly quickly. With this in mind, I’d say infuse it for 10 minutes or 20 minutes MAX. I have a very high tolerance for spice, however, if you don’t straw test it every few minutes until it’s at your desired spiciness. Once your tequila has infused you can build your drink.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Now, rim your glass with salt. Add watermelon together with lime and Bai Kula Watermelon to a shaker and muddle. Next, add the jalapeño tequila and shake with ice. Strain into your desired serving vessel that’s been rimmed with salt and top with Bai Gimbi Pink Grapefruit. Finally, garnish with a lime wheel. This Jalapeno Watermelon Paloma is spicy, fruity, refreshing, and not to mention delightfully fizzy, which makes it perfect for a hot day. I found that using just the Bai Kula Watermelon made this drink sweet enough so no added sugar or syrups necessary.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Additionally, you can also make this Jalapeño Watermelon Paloma a large format style drink too. To serve 10 people add 20 oz. jalapeño infused tequila, 2 bottles Bai Kula Watermelon, 8 oz. lime juice, 2 cups watermelon, 2 sliced grapefruits, and 2 cans of Bai Bubbles Gimbi Pink Grapefruit to a punch bowl or drink dispenser with ice. It’s such a perfect beverage for your Memorial Day Weekend festivities!

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Hot Dogs 4 Ways

It wouldn’t be Memorial Day Weekend without some hot dogs! Pick out your favorite type of dog and cook it your favorite way. These are my 4 suggested ways to dress up your dog this holiday weekend.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Mexican Dog

Ingredients:

avocado, sliced

jalapeño, sliced

1/4 cup white onion, diced

1 tomato, diced

kiwi, diced

1 cup pineapple, diced

pinch of salt

pinch of pepper

4-6 dashes hot sauce of your choice

juice of 1 lime

To make the pineapple kiwi salsa simply toss onion, tomato, kiwi, pineapple, salt, pepper, hot sauce, and lime juice in a bowl. To assemble your Mexican Dog top with the salsa, freshly sliced avocado, and freshly sliced jalapeño.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Chicago Dog

Ingredients:

white onion, diced

tomato, sliced

pickle spears

yellow mustard

sweet relish

pickled sport peppers (we used serranos)*

celery salt

Cut the tomato into half-moon slices and line your hot dog bun with the tomato slices. Add your dog and then top with a pickle spear, sweet relish, sport peppers, mustard, a sprinkle of onion and celery salt. *sport peppers are regional and if you can’t find them where you live use serrano peppers

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Caprese Dog

Ingredients:

tomato, sliced

whole basil leaves

fresh mozzarella

balsamic vinegar

Cut tomatoes into half-moon slices. In your hot dog bun line one side with tomatoes and one side with fresh basil leaves. Top with fresh mozzarella, I used mozzarella pearls, and then drizzle with balsamic vinegar.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

Greek Dog

Ingredients:

cucumber, sliced

tomato, sliced

greek yogurt

cheese, crumbled

Cut cucumber as well as the tomatoes into slices and line your hot dog bun with them. Add your hot dog to the bun and then top with greek yogurt and a sprinkle of feta cheese.

3 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend

I had so much fun putting this all together with Bai for Memorial Day Weekend. You can use one of these ideas or all of them, it’s totally up to you! I love the idea of doing a hot dog bar with the DIY balloon arch, and serving your favorite kind of dog coupled with a large format drink, like the jalapeno watermelon Paloma, to go along with it. I’d love to hear what your planning for your Memorial Day Weekend especially if you decide to try any of these ideas. Make sure you chime in on the comments below and let me know what you think!

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Santa Margherita Wines this year to show you how I enjoy drinking their wines at home. Spring is such a busy time for entertaining. The weather is getting nicer and Mother’s Day, plus many holiday weekends are fast approaching. Having some ideas of what food to serve and what kind of drinks to pair it with is so important.

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

For as much as I love cocktails, I also love to enjoy a glass of wine. Wine is also so much easier to have on hand and serve especially when you’re entertaining. I’ve put together two easy dishes and paired them with Santa Margherita Sparkling Rosé.

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

Spring Pea Salad with Strawberries, serves 4

3/4 cup strawberries, sliced

For the dressing

3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

2 tbsp. champagne vinegar

1 tsp. honey

1/4 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. ground pepper

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

Cantaloupe & Proscuitto Skewers

3 oz. package of prosciutto

1 cantaloupe

Food + Wine Pairing for Spring Entertaining

These recipes were so easy and they took minutes to whip up. Talk about some super easy peasy entertaining ideas! I love using fresh fruit in salads and appetizers in the Spring/Summer and it really brings out the fruity notes in the wine. Santa Margherita Sparkling Rosé has a full bouquet of pleasing floral aromas with hints of red berry and crafted with a blend of white wine made from Chardonnay and Glera grapes and a red varietal of Malbec. It is delicate in flavor but also vibrant and well rounded which makes it a deliciously easy drinking wine. This pale bubbly pink wine is tasty, aromatic, and a great companion to savory appetizers, salads, and seafood dishes. I absolutely adore how it complemented the spring pea salad and prosciutto skewers.

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

February 20, 2018 by Natalie Leave a Comment

Lemon Meringue Hot ToddyIf you’re reading this I’m in sunny and beautiful Palm Springs, California by now. The night before we left, however, was a mere 32°F with mixed rain and heavy snow. It’s safe to say I was ready to hop on that plane! I teamed up Talbott Teas for this post to show you how I stayed warm this February with my delicious Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy using one of their teas!

Talbott Teas offers an exotic and extensive array of gourmet tea flavors to suit any mood or occasion. Characterized by their rich flavors, vivid colors, and soothing aromas, Talbott Teas’ premium tea blends provide a sophisticated playground for the senses. Masterfully blended and made with hand-selected, whole tea leaves, their specialty teas are full-bodied, suffused with subtle yet complex character. Their Luscious Lemon Meringue was the perfect addition to one of my favorite Winter beverages.

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy, serves one

1 1/2 oz. bourbon

1/2 oz. Licor 43

1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice

1/4 oz. honey

top with Talbott Teas Lucious Lemon Meringue

garnish with a float of toasted Swiss meringue*

*Swiss Meringue Topping

2 egg whites, room temperature

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

First, make your meringue. In a saucepan, bring two inches of water to a low simmer. In a clean heat safe bowl, place the egg whites and sugar and mix them well with a whisk. Place the bowl on top of the saucepan with barely simmering water and mix continuously. This is important as the whisking prevents the egg whites from cooking.

Stir the egg whites and sugar with the whisk for about 2-3 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the egg whites become creamy white in color. Remove the eggs from the double boiler and immediately start whisking the egg whites with your stand mixer, to make the meringue. Whisk on high for about four minutes until the egg whites have tripled in volume and have stiff peaks. Add vanilla and mix until incorporated. You can store this in an airtight container until ready to serve. You can also make this ahead of time as it will keep in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

Making your cocktail is the easy part because all you have to do is brew your tea and assemble. Add bourbon, Licor 43, lemon juice, and honey to a serving mug of your choice and top with tea.

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

Finally, top with meringue and toast it using a torch. This was really fun and was actually my first time making meringue or using a kitchen torch. I can’t wait to use it for other things!

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

This is probably my favorite Hot Toddy of all time as a matter of fact. Licor 43 adds a nice vanilla flavor which makes this drink a lot like having a piece of real lemon meringue pie. The lemon meringue tea from Talbott Teas adds fresh herbal notes of lemongrass which is bright, refreshing, and aromatic. Adding fresh lemon juice balances the sweetness in this drink and is a key ingredient to making a classic hot toddy in addition to honey.

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy

The icing on top of the cake, or in this case the drink, is what really brings everything together, the Swiss meringue. It’s beautiful, delicious, and makes this Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy the perfect dessert drink to warm you up on those chilly February nights. I’m hosting a giveaway on Instagram so you can have a chance at winning some Talbott Teas of your own. You have to promise if you win that you will make this Lemon Meringue Hot Toddy though. Good luck everyone and I hope you’re keeping warm. Spring is just around the corner! xo

Super Bowl Party Ideas

Super Bowl Party Ideas

I’m so excited to be teaming up with Bai for this post to bring you some fun Super Bowl Party Ideas. If you’re hosting a Super Bowl gathering or heading to a friends house, these DIYs and recipes should be a part of your goodie bag of tricks. I’m breaking down some fun, totally easy ways to gussy up that Sunday football fest in style!

Bourbon Salted Caramel Popcorn

Bourbon Caramel Popcorn

6 cups popped popcorn

cooking spray or parchment paper

6 tbsp. butter

1/3 cup dark brown sugar

3 tbsp. corn syrup

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla extract

4 tbsp. bourbon

Bourbon Salted Caramel Popcorn - Super Bowl Party Ideas

Preheat the oven to 300°. Spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. Pop the popcorn and transfer it to a large bowl. Heat the butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Once the mixture starts bubbling, cook for one minute more. Remove from heat and add the bourbon and vanilla. Stir and pour over the popcorn. Stir until popcorn is nicely coated and then transfer to the baking sheet, spreading out to an even layer. Bake for 35 minutes, stirring halfway through. Let cool and serve in a bowl or cute football snack bags. Store leftovers in a sealable container — if you have any leftovers.

Simply paint line on a brown paper bag to resemble a football. Let dry and use to serve your Bourbon Caramel Popcorn or to send guests home with a Super Bowl goodie bag.

DIY Football Field Tray - Super Bowl Party Ideas

DIY Football Field Tray

clear lucite tray

astroturf

white duct tape

white number stickers

scissors

hot glue gun and glue sticks

DIY Football Field Tray - Super Bowl Party Ideas

Cut the astroturf to the size of the inside of your lucite tray. I found my lucite tray onsale at HomeGoods for $12.99! Cut a strip of duct tape to the width of your tray and fold it lengthwise so it is smooth on both sides. Repeat until you have enough strips to fit your tray. My tray was small so I only did four. If you have a larger tray you can do five or six strips. Lay out each of the strips on the astroturf until they are evenly spaced to form the yard lines. Hot glue in place. Lay out the yard line number stickers. My stickers weren’t very sticky so I secured them with hot glue too. Place on either side of the yard line on both sides of the tray.

Your tray is Super Bowl ready!!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs - Super Bowl Party Ideas

Fizzy Bourbon Strawberry Lemonade

2 oz. Bourbon

3 oz. Bai São Paulo Strawberry Lemonade

top with club soda or champagne

chocolate covered strawberry football for garnish

Fizzy Bourbon Strawberry Lemonade - Super Bowl Party ideas

I kept the cocktail easy peasy because I know hosting for game day can be tough. These can be made easily to order, built right in the glass or you can toss all the ingredients in a punch bowl for easy self-service.

Fizzy Bourbon Strawberry Lemonade - Super Bowl Party ideas

If you want to take this cocktail a step further you can add the bourbon, Bai Sao Paulo Strawberry Lemonade, fresh strawberries and mint to a cocktail shaker then muddle and shake with ice. Strain into a highball glass over ice and top with club soda. If you’re feeling lucky you can swap out the club soda for champagne and kick the ABV up a notch.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs - Super Bowl Party Ideas

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs

dark chocolate melting wafers

white cookie icing

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs - Super Bowl Party Ideas

Fill a coffee mug with the dark chocolate melting wafers and put in the microwave for 10 seconds. Take out, stir the chocolate, and return to the microwave for another 10 seconds. Repeat this until all chocolate has melted but be careful not to burn the chocolate. Take your strawberries by the stems and dip into the mug of chocolate. Place on a piece of parchment paper and let the strawberries set in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Remove from the refrigerator and pipe the white cookie icing on to resemble footballs. Now you have the cutest and most delicious garnish for game day!

Super Bowl Party Ideas

I’m so happy with how my Super Bowl Party Ideas turned out. Super bowl and super cute tend to not go hand in hand usually, but I feel like I totally scored with these! There is no better day to nosh on popcorn than on Super Bowl Sunday and the fact that it’s boozy popcorn makes it all the better. The fizzy bourbon strawberry lemonade is easy, delicious, and that chocolate covered strawberry football garnish is a win in my book! Serving in style is key and the DIY football field tray is a cute detail that pulls everything together. I hope this inspires you to make your game day festivities a little more fun. Ethan’s team (The Eagles) are going to the Super Bowl so I can’t wait to recreate these ideas for Super Bowl Sunday. xo

Winter Pimm’s Cup

January 15, 2018 by Natalie Leave a Comment

Winter Pimm's Cup

I’ve been thinking about Summer a lot. Probably because it’s been so cold and I need to be reminded that there will be sunshine and warmth again someday. I’ve teamed up with Zevia to bring you a Winter Pimm’s Cup in honor of one of my favorite Summer classics. The first time I ever had a Pimm’s Cup was many years ago in the city of New Orleans. I think anything I’ve ever eaten or drunk in NOLA has become an instant favorite. It’s impossible not to fall in love with that city.

New Orleans has a way of taking things that you could find anywhere and re-engineering them so that they become so uniquely New Orleans, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything else that measures up. The Pimm’s Cup is one such example. While the classic drink was born in a London bar at the hands of a bartender named James Pimm, the Napoleon House in New Orleans has taken his creation, put a slight twist on it, and placed it down in one of the city’s most charming watering holes. If you ever get a chance to visit, going to the Napoleon House for a Pimm’s Cup and a muffaletta is a must!

Winter Pimm's Cup

I love to make my Pimm’s Cup like the Napoleon House does — Pimm’s, fresh lemonade, lemon/lime soda and a very elaborate cucumber garnish. For my Winter Pimm’s Cup, I’ve added Scotch for a cold weather spin on the classic. There’s no need to add the extra sugar of soda when you can make the perfect cocktail with Zevia Dry Lemon Lime.

Winter Pimm's Cup

Winter Pimm’s Cup

1 oz. Scotch

1 oz. Pimm’s

3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice

3/4 oz. stevia simple syrup

1 can Zevia Dry Lemon Lime Mixer

cucumber, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and mint for muddling and garnish

Making stevia simple syrup is easy and a great way to make your cocktails a little healthier. Mix 2 tablespoons of powdered stevia with 1 cup of warm water and stir until completely dissolved. The consistency of this syrup will be much thinner than traditional simple syrup. Stevia simple syrup still works perfectly for adding sweetness and balancing out citrus in your drinks.

Winter Pimm's Cup

To make a Winter Pimm’s Cup add some berries, mint, cucumber, lemon juice, and stevia simple syrup to a tin. Give it a quick muddle and then add your Scotch and Pimm’s. Shake with ice and strain into a highball glass over ice and top with Zevia Dry Lemon Lime Mixer. Garnish elaborately with a bouquet of mint, berries, and cucumber slices.

Winter Pimm's Cup

Winter Pimm's Cup

Winter Pimm's Cup

This Winter Pimm’s Cup is a perfect variation on the classic — cool, light, tart, refreshing, and slightly smoky. The Zevia Dry Lemon Lime Mixer is a great substitute for regular sodas because it doesn’t add too much sweetness or sugar. A Pimm’s Cup is usually a low ABV cocktail but I like how the Scotch kicks it up a notch. I need some alcohol content to stay warm this winter. My favorite thing about this drink (besides drinking it) is the elaborate fruit garnish. It practically qualifies as a cocktail and a fruit salad snack which is A-OK with me! I hope you’ll be mixing up a few of these this Winter. xo

Holiday Pomegranate Mule

December 14, 2017 by Natalie Leave a Comment

It’s beginning to look a lot like cocktails (I mean Christmas) around here! The holidays can be a little hectic, so taking the stress out of entertaining is key. I put together this Holiday Pomegranate Mule that is perfect for your holiday celebrations. They’re easy to whip up in a larger batch but also simple if you just need to make a few. Maybe you need to kick up your feet up and relax with one. I promise this Holiday Pomegranate Mule will do the trick!

I’ve been using Zevia mixers a lot around here and I love, love, love their ginger beer. Their mixers are simple and the perfect compliment to any cocktail. This ginger beer is bold and spicy in flavor (which I love) with a hint of sweetness. Making smarter choices is important to me and I like using Zevia because there is no sugar, no calories, and no artificial sweeteners. That means they won’t overload cocktails with extra calories and they have a more sophisticated and drier flavor than most sodas on the market. I used Zevia ginger beer in my Holiday Pomegranate Mule and the results were amazing!

Holiday Pomegranate Mule, serves 1

2 oz. vodka

3/4 oz. lime juice

3/4 oz. pomegranate simple syrup

1 can Zevia Ginger Beer

I made a pomegranate simple syrup with stevia to further reduce the calories associated with drinking cocktails. I made it by reducing fresh pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and stevia. Place 2 cups pomegranate juice, 4 tbsp. of stevia and 1/2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice in a saucepan set over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally until the stevia has completely dissolved. Allow to cool completely and store in a glass jar or bottle.

Add your vodka, lime juice, and pomegranate simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with some ice and give it a quick shake. Pour into a copper mug filled with ice and top with Zevia Ginger Beer. Garnish with a slice of lime, a sprig of rosemary, and some pomegranate seeds. While I was scooping out the seeds from the pomegranate I produced a good amount of fresh pomegranate juice. If that’s the case for you as well, pour some of the juice into your cocktail. I love fresh pomegranate juice and it added so much flavor to the drink!

Pomegranates are tart, tangy, and rich but not sweet, with musky complexities similar to red wine. I love using this ingredient in cocktails because the flavors are so complex and mix well with so many spirits. I based this Holiday Pomegranate Mule off the classic Moscow Mule cocktail but feel free to use another spirit besides vodka. Rum, gin, tequila, or any type of whiskey would also be a great fit for this drink.

If you want to make this drink in a large batch multiply the recipe by how many drinks you’d like to make. Add all ingredients to a pitcher or punch bowl and stir. By making some slight adjustments like using a stevia sweetener instead of sugar and using Zevia, I made a healthy and low-calorie cocktail. It’s easy to pack on a few pounds during the holiday season so I’ll save my calories where I can. Does this mean I can have an extra cookie? I hope you will consider enjoying a few of these Holiday Pomegranate Mules with your loved ones at your upcoming holiday gatherings. May your days be merry and bright everyone! Cheers. xo

Boozy Hot Chocolate

November 28, 2017 by Natalie 1 Comment

The history of hot chocolate dates back to Aztecs and Mayans, but it was the Spanish who first experimented with adding sugar and milk, in addition to a host of modifiers, including cinnamon, orange peel, and even ambergris, to spice it up. Spirited variations on the hot chocolate can take many forms. My favorite things to mix in Boozy Hot Chocolate is whiskey, rum, tequila, cream liqueur, vanilla liqueur, creme de cacao, coffee liqueur, or even sherry.

I created this Boozy Hot Chocolate variation with Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur to promote their Holiday Contest where those who enter the contest will be up for a chance to win a trip to NYC for St. Patrick’s Day complete with a cash prize and tickets to an exclusive, VIP event with Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur. Contestant’s cocktails will be judged, based on visual aspects, creativity, and overall execution. This contest will run from mid-November through the end of December, with the winner being announced in January. For more details on the contest and to enter, visit: www.kerrygoldirishcream.com/NYC. Rules and restrictions apply. US entrants only. Must be 21 years or older to enter.

Boozy Hot Chocolate, serves 1

1 oz. Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur

1 oz. Irish Whiskey

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar

pinch of salt

1 cup of milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir until all ingredients have dissolved and then whisk in the remainder of the milk. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until hot. Add the vanilla extract and whisk until completely incorporated.

Once the hot chocolate is prepared you can build your drink. Add the Kerrygold Irish Cream Liqueur and whiskey to your desired serving vessel. Pour the hot chocolate on top, stir, and garnish with marshmallows or whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder.

This recipe multiplies very easily in case you want to make a larger batch.  Add the hot chocolate and your spirits to an enamel pot or pitcher so that it stays warm for serving. This Boozy Hot Chocolate is a breeze to make and is sure to keep you nice and toasty on a cold day. I hope you try this one at home or come up with your own recipe. If you do don’t forget to enter the contest. I’d love to see you in NYC for St. Patrick’s Day. Happy sipping and good luck! xo

Rosemary Gin and Tonics with Infused Ice

November 20, 2017 by Natalie 2 Comments

Hey there everyone! I’ve been working my little behind off and I’m getting ready to host my first Thanksgiving. Let’s talk about STRESSED. Luckily I’ve teamed up with Zevia to bring you some cocktail recipes with their non-alcoholic mixers. First up are these Rosemary Gin and Tonics with Infused Ice.

Zevia is a line of zero calorie, refreshing and delicious beverages. Zevia is sweetened with the plant-based sweetener stevia, which means no artificial sweeteners, and no sugar. It is also Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, Kosher, vegan and free of caramel color. Zevias mixers are simple, delicious, and the perfect compliment to any cocktail. I wanted to make something that was no fuss because that equals no stress! These Rosemary Gin & Tonics with infused ice are the perfect answer to easy entertaining this Thanksgiving.

Rosemary Gin and Tonic

2 oz. rosemary infused gin

1 can of Zevia tonic water

rosemary and cranberry infused ice cubes

Infusing the gin is easy. Simply add your desired amount of gin to a container with a few sprigs of rosemary. Infuse for 1 hour or until the desired level of taste is achieved.

To make your ice cubes add cranberries and rosemary to a large ice cube tray and fill with filtered water. Freeze for 5-6 hours but overnight is always best.

To make your cocktail place your infused ice in a glass, pour the gin and then add Zevia tonic water.

I love using infused ice in drinks. It’s a really simple detail that will certainly wow your guests. The great part about infusing ice is that you can make a bunch ahead and simply pop them out of the freezer when needed. Same thing goes for infusing the gin. Infuse as much as you need in advance and you have a delicious 2 ingredient cocktail with the most beautiful garnish. Easy peasy. There’s so much to do when you’re entertaining so I hope these Rosemary Gin and Tonics with Infused Ice will take a little work out of making cocktails. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanksgiving Fall Tablescape Ideas

November 15, 2017 by Natalie

Every year it always surprises me how quickly it goes from Halloween to Christmas. Even in retail stores, they seem to totally skip over Thanksgiving all together. It makes the time move too fast and I wish it would slow down so we could enjoy each holiday just a little bit longer. Thanks to Kate Aspen I’m showing you some Thanksgiving Fall Tablescape Ideas that are easy, beautiful and sure to impress your holiday guests.

Beautiful doesn’t even do this tablescape justice. I have thoroughly impressed myself! This is the first holiday that I live in a space big enough to entertain in so I’m super excited. For the table, I wanted it to have lots of colors but still be seasonally appropriate. I picked up some bundles of small pumpkins at my local grocery store and painted them with acrylic paint I already had. I wanted to do somewhat of an ombé look for the pumpkins so I did hot pink, light pink, coral, orange, and yellow. Then I accented them with these Kate Aspen gold glitter pumpkin votive holders. They’re so cute and sparkly and look perfect next to the painted pumpkins.

Since a lot of my table accessories were gold I wanted a pop of color for the place settings. I used white and gold-rimmed dinner plates with vintage green and gold-rimmed appetizer plates and white and gold bread plates. The green plates accent the greenery in the centerpiece as well very nicely. I picked up the foliage from a local flower shop and the bundle was only $5. Super affordable and really worthwhile to make a memorable tablescape. Underneath I layered two different table runners to add more color and texture. You can use a tablecloth and runner or even placemats.

I used white napkins with gold polka dots and these really cute Kate Aspen pumpkin napkin rings. Are you sensing a theme here? I also used these super cute gold pumpkin place card holders. Here is where I wish I excelled in cute penmanship. My handwriting has been epically bad my whole life. In college, my drafting professor used to give me special assignments where all I had to do was practice my block lettering inside these elaborate shapes. All that did was train me to only know how to write in architecture handwriting. Years later it’s just morphed into me writing messy in all caps. We can’t be good at everything, can we?

No holiday dinner is complete without some wine. Using something as simple as decorative bottle stoppers like these pumpkin ones make them fit in with your table decor. I always like to have a variety of wine available because everyone has different taste. I’m usually a white wine drinker but having another bottle of red on hand is always good. I absolutely adore these cheers stemless wine glasses. They’re perfect for any occasion.

I’m so happy that I got to share my Thanksgiving Fall Tablescape Ideas with you. It was really easy to put together and styling your table makes a huge impact for entertaining. All of the things included in my Thanksgiving Fall Tablescape Ideas are super affordable as well which is a huge plus! Decorating and hosting can get pricey during the holidays so it’s great to find ways to still get festive on a budget. If you’re still planning your Thanksgiving table make sure you head over to the Kate Aspen website and check out all their party favors and tabletop decor.

I had so much fun styling this table and I can’t wait to host my first Thanksgiving. I’d love to hear whats on your Thanksgiving table. Let me know is the comments below! If you need more inspiration I’ve pinned all of these items plus more inspiration on my Tablescape Board and Thanksgiving Ideas Board on Pinterest. Cheers everyone!
